I have a really limited capacity for talks/panels/happy-hours-with-heavy-announcements. There’s so much information about climate out there, and so it bamboozles me why we’d assemble smart, passionate people in a room just to have them sit quietly next to each other, or get them together to make small talk for 45 minutes after work before they have to leave to go to the gym even though they’re slightly sozzled on white wine (speaking hypothetically of course; I’ve certainly never done this). So I created Chumstock to give climate doers the time & place to build transformative friendships across the sector.

That’s right: the entire point of this is socializing, not formal learning or highly-facilitated discussion. My philosophy is that 4 days/3 nights is just-right for moving relationships beyond networking and towards durable connection. For example, you might become friends with someone on your team at trivia night, chat with them the next day on a hike, high-five them on the dance floor 10 hours later, and finally decide to share numbers on the ferry home. Bored at work the following week, you send them a LinkedIn request only to realize that they’re the exact engineer you’d need to build your dream seed cannon or seaweed-powered underwater data center or whatever counts as climate tech these days. Following the first Chumstock, I heard stories like this from most of the attendees.
